From one plant to a living network

The factories of tomorrow will share what they learn with each other. A fix found in one plant can reach every plant by the next shift.

Most manufacturers run many plants that solve the same problems again and again. A clever fix in one site rarely travels to the next. Distance, different systems and simple habit keep knowledge local.

The factory of the future is part of a network that learns together.

How knowledge travels

For a lesson to move between plants, three things need to be true. The data must mean the same thing everywhere. The context must travel with it, so others understand when it applies. And people in the receiving plant must be able to trust and adapt it.

Build the shared language first

The unglamorous work comes first. Common definitions for machines, materials, defects and states. With that shared language in place, every new use case becomes cheaper and faster to roll out.

A realistic path

  1. Pick two plants with a shared problem.
  2. Agree on how you describe it, together.
  3. Solve it once, document the context, move it across.
  4. Measure how long the second rollout took compared to the first.

When the second plant is faster, you have the beginning of a living network. Every plant you add makes the whole smarter.
